In one of this college football generation’s most unique experiences, the University of Notre Dame will take on the U.S. Naval Academy tomorrow morning in Dublin, Ireland at Aviva Stadium. Typically hosting soccer matches on the pitch (and later this month, Lady Gaga) Aviva Stadium had to undergo a mini-transformation in order to host an American football game.
It’s not quite as drastic as having to host three unique events in a 24-hour period, but it’s also not like Aviva Stadium hosts American football games frequently at all. It appears that the stadium already had the capability to host a football game (vertical bolts for the goalpost units in the ground set in concrete), but it’s not like the changeover from soccer pitch to football gridiron was very swift (nor did it have to be).
Still, this will be a very cool event that kicks off tomorrow at 9 a.m. EST. Let’s hope the unusual game circumstances don’t lead to technical issues that potentially affect the outcome.
